How do I book an appointment?

Easy. You can click here and pick an available time slot that works best for you. This will be our assessment session, which is free of charge to you. This is a shorter session (15 to 30 minutes) where you tell us what you are looking for: what has brought you to us, and in what ways you are hoping for us to help you. We will ask you some questions to learn more about what you are looking for and to decide whether online psychoanalytic work is a good option for you, and whether we are the right people for helping you. And you will ask us some questions to learn more about who we are and what we do, and to decide whether you would like to work with us. If by the end of the session we mutually agree to go forward, we will then plan and schedule further sessions.

I’ve never done this before. How do I prepare for my first session?

You don’t need to worry about “preparing” for the first or any of the following sessions. What is most  important is that you feel comfortable to be yourself, to speak openly about what has brought you to us, and to ask us any questions that you have. Remember, this and every session is for you: you are hiring us to help you have a better life.  So the short answer then: you don’t need to come prepared for anything other than seeking what you are looking for and telling us all about it.

How long do I need consultation?

That depends. There are a number of variables at work, including the kind of challenges and symptoms you are dealing with; the level of motivation you have to learn about yourself even when that may not be the most pleasant thing to do; the degree of openness you feel to thinking differently and changing things around; the context of your life and elements that support or hinder your progress; and of course, the kinds of goals you set for the therapy. Generally speaking, psychoanalytic therapy is considered depth oriented and long term. Psychoanalytic work is designed for long-lasting and meaningful change that can affect the trajectory of one’s life. This approach is not meant for offering immediate results or finding quick solutions to circumstantial problems.

How much does it cost?

Consultation rates are simple and low. Consultants each have their own rates.  The typical rate is in the rage of $180 to $250 for individual sessions. You will discuss and set the  rate with your own therapist. Sessions with more than one participant (for instance couples, or corporate consultations) need to be discussed on a case by case basis.  We also each have a quota of “sliding scale” rates.  These are set aside for individuals who cannot afford the full rate.  If you feel you need to request a sliding scale rate, please get in touch with us and let us know the details of your situation.  Please do keep in mind that we each have a limited number of sliding scale spots in a given week, and despite your eligibility we may not be able to accommodate your request immediately.

How do I pay?

You can make payments using PayPal, credit cards, or cryptocurrencies,  directly and securely right here on the website. We are firm supporters of new tech and the democratization that it is bringing us, so we prefer crypto payments (USDT, Ethereum, and Bitcoin), but the choice is yours. Go to this page if you need to make a payment.

Can I pay through my insurance?

No. Accepting insurance coverage is not feasible in this setting. Not to mention, there are very few insurance plans that would cover private long term psychoanalytic consultation, so the majority of psychoanalytic work in “real life” settings is also done through out of pocket  payment. Add to this also the fact that we will be working across various borders, which make insurance coverage further complicated. You need to keep in mind that psychoanalysis is, unfortunately, something of an elite privilege, which by its very nature leaves out many who could genuinely use its insights. That is a sad but unavoidable fact, given the current paradigms of wealth, access and privilege that make the means of well-being not easily accessible to all.  The internet has fortunately broken the physical restrictions so you don’t need to be living in Boston, New York, or other major centers to find access to quality psychoanalytic work. Let’s hope this democratizing force can equalize more aspects in future.

Can I have my sessions in person?

Ever since the 2020 pandemic, we have opted for a fully online-only practice. So in general we are not seeing any patients in person now. Having said this, in exceptional cases (i.e. not on an ongoing basis) where an in-person meeting would be deemed essential by your clinician, we will be open to that possibility.

Can I stay anonymous?

Well, it depends. Traditionally speaking, that’s not how psychotherapeutic consultation works. In order for psychoanalytic work to be effective, the sessions need to gradually evolve into an open, safe and transparent bubble where the analyst and the analysand can work together to dig deep and change things around. So it is technically hard to imagine creating a space of such trust and transparency while not even knowing who you are speaking to. But then again, the fact is that doing psychoanalytic consultations through the internet is a totally new paradigm, and doing it right demands a great level of openness to doing things differently and sometimes reinventing new methods. Neither of us have not worked with an anonymous client in face-to-face space. But we are open to the idea, if there are others like the person who has asked this question, for whom it is essential to remain anonymous. This of course then brings up a number of other questions like the degree of anonymity, or the technological issues involved, which would need to be dealt with on a case by case basis. So, the short answer then: if you absolutely feel the need to get into therapy in an anonymous way, speak to us about it, and we will figure out how to tackle that.

Will what I say remain confidential?

Absolutely. This work is possible only in a space where you feel completely safe and secure. Confidentiality of what you tell us is one of the foundational elements of our work. This means what you say to your therapist stays with them and with them alone.

Of course we will be doing this online, which  comes with its own security challenges.  To protect our privacy against such intrusion, we will need to keep the communication line as secure as possible on both ends, and we will use the latest and safest available platforms.

Finally, you should know that therapists are legally required to disclose information in cases of serious danger of harm to oneself, harm to others, or child abuse. Any such disclosures will be discussed with you in advance.

What platform will we use?

Our currently preferred platform is Zoom. We will be open to using other platforms on a case by case basis, depending on need and reasons. Please feel free to discuss with us, if you need to meet through an alternative platform.

My question is not in this list. How can I ask you my question?

Sure, we’ll be happy to answer your question.  You can use this form to send us your question.
